I’ve been a licensed Amateur Radio operator since 2003, holding the call sign KB3LYB with a General class license (working toward Amateur Extra). I’m a member of the North Hills Amateur Radio Club (NHARC) where I help maintain the W3EXW 2-meter repeater’s EchoLink connection.
Current Projects
My main station centers around a Yaesu FT-710 for HF work, with a Yaesu FT-891 in a portable go-box configuration for field operations. I also have a Yaesu FT-817 for QRP work and backpacking, plus several Kenwood hybrids for various specialized applications.
I’m currently building a new 220 MHz AllStarLink repeater network in the Pittsburgh area and experimenting with Meshtastic for mesh networking applications.
Technical Interests
My background in IT and identity management carries over into radio — I’m particularly interested in digital modes, network protocols over RF, and the intersection of traditional amateur radio with modern mesh networking technologies.
